Research and Knowledge Management Support Assistant at IOM

Core Functions / Responsibilities:
Knowledge Management:
• Establish a knowledge management strategy that will facilitate, organizational learning, and synergies between various units;
• Promote timely and efficient knowledge sharing through improved information and knowledge capturing, packaging, and sharing procedures;
•Collate general and specific information on IOM’s activities with a focus on IOM research, assessments, surveys, and such other studies;
• Prepare general and specific information on IOM’s activities as requested by donors/external parties, IOM Missions, HQ and other internal counterparts;
• Contribute to the production of content on IOM’s new regional migration research blog. Help to better position IOM as a source of, and authority on, migration-related knowledge in the MENA region;
• Ensure that all the Organization’s knowledge is recorded and collected into an IOM central repository, and easily accessible to relevant staff members;
• Provide advice and recommendations to Programme Managers on complementary studies and research with the scope of developing a more comprehensive and holistic vision on migration management and governance;
• Liaise with IOM’s Regional Office for MENA and relevant HQ departments, ensuring synergies with the Organization’s Knowledge Management Group;

Research:
• Collect and analyse relevant data and background information on national migration policies, strategies and programmes in Egypt;
• Collect data, information and statistics on migrants, migration trends, flows and stocks in Egypt and tabulate and analyse the same as requested;
• Conduct and coordinate statistical analysis of development and poverty migration-related indicators (rural-urban migration, remittances, unemployment, human trafficking and smuggling etc.) in Egypt;
• Provide research guidance on emerging migration issues in coordination with relevant IOM units.
• Develop and maintain a resource bank of internal and external research papers, policy briefs, etc., in English and Arabic, related to IOM’s fields of work;
• Plan a research and dissemination strategy consistent with IOM’s mandate and strategy in Egypt, and in line with the Government priorities;
• Assist in developing and reviewing research proposals, donor reports submitted as requested;
• Provide capacity building, training, and general support on research methods to co-workers and government counterparts;
• Support the Country Office in implementing projects and activities;
• Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience
• Completed advanced university degree from an accredited academic institution preferably in Economics, Political Science, Law or any other relevant field, with proven research ability
• Three years of relevant professional experience
• Strong research and analytical skills; good knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative research methodology is essential
• Familiarity with SPSS or other statistical software packages is preferred
• Good knowledge of migration and development-related issues
• Experience of organizing and producing visibility material

Languages:
• Thorough knowledge of both English and Arabic, both Spoken and written
