Summary of Duties:
Driver/Messengers provide transportation, delivery and/or errand services to all mission programs. They provide safe driving services to senior officials, program managers, mission staff, and other visitors or dignitaries. They may also drive Canadian based staff dependents and clients, in certain circumstances.
They provide courier and logistics services, arrange for vehicle maintenance and cleaning, undertake vehicle administrative duties, and may additionally support the mission by assisting with basic administrative, protocol, maintenance and other support services following established mission and departmental policies.
Area of Selection:
This position is open to candidates who have the right to reside and work in Egypt as an employee on a permanent basis as well as to all employees of the mission occupying an indeterminate or determinate position and to employees hired with a temporary contract, who have all the essential qualifications and whose applications are received before the closing date

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.
Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.
*Language will be assessed further during the process.
Education:
Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.
High school or technical diploma or any equivalent combination of relevant education, training and work experience.
Language:
Good* knowledge of English (oral, reading and written).
Proficiency in Arabic (oral, reading and written).
*Good being defined as being able to meet daily social demands, being able to confidently handle basic social interactions including basic presentations and conversations about daily events, work, as well as family, and being able to handle responsibilities with limited workload, but help is needed to manage complications and difficulties.
Experience:
At least two (2) years of recent* professional experience as a professional driver in a diplomatic mission, international organisation, governmental agency or private large corporate organisation.
Professional Experience in driving vehicles with manual transmission.
*Recent being defined as within the last 5 years.
RATED REQUIREMENTS
The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.
Knowledge:
Basic knowledge of auto mechanics in order to be able to carry out small repairs (change tire, charge car battery, etc.) and follow up with garages.
Competencies:
Courtesy and keen sense of customer service.
Judgment and discretion.
Professional integrity.
Clear, polite and effective communication.
Abilities:
Ability to drive carefully, courteously, and professionally.
Ability to work under pressure due to a conflicting schedule and unpredictable demands or issues.
Ability to orient yourself in Cairo and read a road map/navigate with a GPS.
Ability to communicate effectively with Egyptian authorities and liaise between the Embassy of Canada and officials (customs, airport, traffic officer, public services, etc.).
Ability to lift and transport loads (luggage parcels etc.).
Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
Ability to communicate in French (oral).
Experience in driving armoured vehicles.
Operational Requirements:
Willingness and ability to work occasionally outside normal working hours and / or weekends and to travel outside of town and to neighboring countries.
The incumbent may be required to complete training in driving armoured vehicles to ensure the movement of authorized mission personnel to high-risk locations.
Work schedule: 37.5 hours per week.
Conditions of Employment:
Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.
Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
Other conditions of employment:
Applicants must hold a professional or private Egyptian driver’s license.
Candidates must complete a medical exam.
