Job Title : Operations Shift Superintendent Job Code : OP002 Job Department : Operation Department Accountabilities /Position summary: Ø * Provide effective support to the Shift Manager in the organization and control of terminal operations during a designated shift period in order to meet planned objectives and productivity levels. Ø * Ensure that safe working practices according to SCCT policies and procedures are strictly adhered to and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn at all times by SCCT. Ø * Responsible under the direction of the Shift Manager for the allocation and control of shift operational staff and the effective utilization of equipment resources to meet the planned objectives. Ø * Supervise and coordinate compliance by operational employees/Contractors with the operational plan to ensure effective ship working * programs are maintained. Ø Coordinate with vessel/yard planners any required changes to the initial plans. Ø * Ensure continuous operations are maintained during shift changeovers and for Container Handling Equipment Operator (CHE) operators changeover for rest periods. Ø * Assist in the development of staff to ensure they perform at efficient and effective levels, monitoring performance and taking appropriate action in order they reach full potential employees/Contractors required in operational areas of the terminal. Ø * Liaise with engineering supervisory staff to minimize breakdown time and maximize equipment availability. Ø * Responsible for maintaining a satisfactory level of staff discipline during the shift. Ø * Contribute to “on the job” training of SCCT operational staff as required by management. Ø * Supervise vessel berthing/sailing and mooring gang operations as required. Ø * Undertake other duties within capabilities as required by SCCT management. Ø * Commitment to investigate, represent, and provide technical reports for any incidents. Ø * Create and maintain team spirit within the shift. Ø Communicate both short and medium term shift goals and objectives to the shift leaders, and cascade it down to the whole shift staff. Ø * Ensure all his employee are working in a safe manner, and obligated with HSE policy and instructions. Ø * Report all accidents, unsafe positions, defected equipments, and safety complains from his department to HSE representative. Qualifications, Skills & Experience: * University or college standard of education with subsequent experience at management or supervisory level in an industrial environment. * Minimum three (3) years experience in a position requiring the man management of significant numbers of employees. * Ability to assist the Shift Manager by taking the lead in obtaining the cooperation and support from SCCT operational employees and contractors in all areas of terminal operations to achieve set operational objectives using a teamwork approach. * Effective interpersonal communications skills with ability to develop good working relationships, mutual trust and understanding within the SCCT operational workforce, management, customers and contractors. * Ability to maintain employee discipline in the workplace. * Ability to direct, monitor and control specified work groups to carry out designated tasks. * Effective negotiating and conflict resolution skills. * Ability to work under pressure to diagnose, evaluate and resolve operational problems as they occur. * Able to communicate effectively in spoken and written English. * Effective customer service skills. * Understanding of basic safety requirements in an industrial environment. * Experience in a shipping or transport related field an advantage. * Current driving license.
