Specific Responsibilities

The Geologist I role for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache’s Operations Geology team at the company’s Cairo office reporting to the Operations Geology Supervisor.

This role will be primarily responsible for the following:

•    Exploration & development well planning including predrill technical documentation & well permitting.
•    Visiting the rig site as operational needs dictate.
•    Working with Joint Venture counterparts to ensure alignment on technical interpretations.
•    Well delivery including real-time remote monitoring & operational support to the rig site team.
•    Achieving well objectives in the most efficient way.
•    Picking formation tops & defining key decision points such as TD picks, casing points, core points.
•    Promoting Apache’s safety culture across all disciplines.
•    Cuttings sample evaluation & description: accurate lithological sample description, hydrocarbon shows analysis & daily report preparation.
•    Mud Log generation, interpretation & correlation.
•    Wireline Logging witnessing / supervision.
•    Geological Hazards interpretation & mitigation.
•    Accurate management & JV partner company reporting.
•    Liaising closely with related functions such as Drilling, Petrophysics & Reservoir Engineering to ensure max efficiency & operational excellence.
•    Post well close out including final well reporting, composite log, lessons learning & hazards tracking.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

•    A degree or post graduate degree in Geology or related discipline. 
•    1-3 years of relevant oil & gas experienced (geology, mudlogging, M/LWD, wireline services).
•    Be able to interpret petrophysical logs & integrate other geological data.
•    Have a strong knowledge / understanding of drilling processes / practices.
•    Have a strong working knowledge of other key subsurface disciplines (petrophysics, petroleum geochemistry, reservoir engineering).
•    Have experience in difference well types (exploration, appraisal, development, vertical, deviated, horizontal).
•    Experience in pore pressure prediction & monitoring is preferred.
•    Experience in Egypt’s Western Desert petroleum systems is preferred.
•    Be expected to be available ‘on call’ as operations dictate (including holidays & weekends).
•    Be expected to spend time away from office location & work out in the field.
•    Have strong organizational, data integration & manipulation skills.
•    Have the ability to solve problems & quickly act on drilling results (key lessons learned, implications of failure or success).
•    Have the ability to interact across multiple operational disciplines to deliver an aggressive multi-basin, multi-play drilling schedule that is optimized for business performance.
•    Have strong skills in structural & stratigraphic interpretation.
•    Have impeccable communication skills – presentation experience to management and JV partners; effectively communicates work procedures to relevant personnel.
