Job Role Summary
Ensures
timely and accurate tax return preparation, submission, statistical
reporting, and payment to government authorities including tax
refund/claim submissions where appropriate. Provides advice, coaching
and training to team members in application of tax laws, regulations and
filing requirements.
Job Role Responsibilities
- Provides advice, coaching and training to team members in application of tax laws, regulations and filing requirements.
- Gathers and analyzes data; uses data to develop information necessary to prepare and timely file returns that require high level of expertise and technical knowledge (including amended returns and similar types of adjustments to change original filings, as necessary), estimated payments, extensions, etc.
- Timely prepares balance sheet account reconciliations for accounts owned in accordance with the BSAM guidelines, if appropriate. Conducts analysis of discrepancies and open items, as identified, and takes necessary follow up actions. Advises and collaborates with others on reconciling accounts and correcting discrepancies if applicable.
- Prepares journal entries or adjustments, with higher levels of complexity, as necessary to correct tax accounts / balances. Assists Controller's with tax accruals and tax basis balance sheet reconciliations, if applicable. Advises and collaborates with other staff functions to understand and properly account for complex transactions.
- Takes ownership to resolve identified open issues, including those with more complexity, making use of available systems and tools and working together with relevant Tax affiliates and business lines. Collaborates with the work group and other functions to identify and implement process improvements / efficiencies.
- As appropriate, reviews return instructions / law changes requiring high levels of expertise and technical knowledge and collaborates with Tax Advisors for compliance impacts; makes necessary adjustments to return preparation processes to ensure compliance; participates in special studies (e.g., impacts of legislative proposals, etc.).
- Analyzes complex data for preparation and / or submission of tax returns and refunds. Takes initiative to resolve discrepancies and incorporate changes as a result of discrepancies. Provides guidance on alternate resolutions to meet compliance requirements.
- Establishes and maintains an open and effective working relationship with data suppliers, business clients and / or taxing authorities to assist in the resolution of issues and inquiries. Actively fosters teamwork and communicates team's mission, goals and roles. Educates and trains others on tax reporting requirements.
- Researches and collaborates with Tax Advisors, as appropriate, to accurately and timely resolve complex assessments or inquiries from taxing jurisdictions. Initiates data correction, if applicable, by notifying affected groups of related return issues.
- Provides audit support and obtains requested audit data, which might be difficult to gather, as needed.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the components and principles of ExxonMobil's Corporate Safety, Security, Health and Environment (SSHE) guidelines and ensures these principles are incorporated in role.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the ExxonMobil controls framework, CIMS, ExxonMobils Standards of Business Conduct, controls assessment processes (i.e., UIAs, Internal Audits, special reviews) and applies those controls standards to current portfolio, as necessary.
