Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of cost accounting principles, inventory management, supplier relationships, and accounting restrictions within the fashion retail industry. This role is crucial for ensuring accurate cost tracking, profitability analysis, and informed decision-making.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain cost accounting systems and procedures.
- Analyze cost of goods sold (COGS) and identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost reduction.
- Manage inventory costing, including standard costing, FIFO, and other relevant methods.
- Collaborate with the procurement team to analyze supplier costs and negotiate favorable pricing.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of inventory levels and valuations.
- Reconcile inventory accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Prepare and analyze cost reports, including gross margin analysis and profitability reports.
- Assist in the budgeting and forecasting process.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations, including those specific to the fashion retail industry (e.g., handling seasonal inventory, markdowns, etc.).
- Stay up-to-date on changes in accounting regulations and best practices.
- Work closely with other departments, such as merchandising, operations, and finance, to improve cost efficiency.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including those related to inventory control and financial reporting.
Qualifications
- Cost Accounting and Financial Statements skills
- Analytical Skills for financial data analysis
- Experience in making Journal Entries (Accounting)
- Finance knowledge for managing company finances
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Familiarity with the specific accounting restrictions and challenges within the fashion retail sector (e.g., handling seasonal inventory, markdowns, returns, etc.).
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced level).
