Nature Publishing Group (NPG) – Middle East is a division of Macmillan Publishers Ltd, dedicated to serving the academic, professional scientific and medical communities. As part of our growth in the region, NPG Middle East is recruiting a senior editor for Nature Middle East, one of our flagship publications in the region. This position, based in our Cairo office, will also involve working with the exciting and dynamic team responsible for the publication of Nature Arabic Edition as well as involvement in some of our other custom publications in the region. The Senior Editor will be responsible for commissioning, editing and reviewing research highlights, news and features in English. They will work with their team to produce articles of the highest quality to meet our standards. They will be closely involved in the portal’s growth, maximizing its regional impact and for publishing articles on the online portal. Requirements: 1. Fluent in both English and Arabic 2. A minimum of one years’ editorial experience in journalism, preferably writing or editing science-related articles 3. The ability to work and communicate with scientists and to read and understand scientific papers 4. Sound understanding and interest in biological and physical sciences 5. Good grasp of new media tools and social networks 6. Ability to work constructively within a team
Qualifications Qualifications: Graduate degree from science-related major, or a graduate degree in mass media with a strong science background, required. Postgraduate studies (MSc or PhD) in a science-related major would be an advantage. Experience and skills: The ideal candidate will be a professional with a sound scientific background and at least some experience working within an editorial team. They should have an eye for details and be able to handle strict deadlines. They will be comfortable with using various Word processing applications and preferably some Adobe applications. They should also have strong English and Arabic skills, be comfortable with translating and familiar with how to handle English scientific words in Arabic. Above all, they must be hardworking, dedicated and a team player able to work with the rest of the editorial team comfortably and effectively.
