Description The Date Palm Production Consultancy assignment is critical toward the overall success of the ERAS Project. The consultant will work alongside key project program staff to develop a date palm cultivation training curriculum that will address critical weaknesses amongst smallholder date palm farmers. The consultant will verify training needs through a series of field trips and Date palm value chain stakeholder workshops. Once gaps and training priorities are confirmed, the consultant will develop a date palm cultivation manual in tailored to each governorate where the project operates.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Training needs assessment
Identify training priorities of small holder farmers in Date palm production, harvest and post-harvest practices through stakeholder meetings that involve lead farmers, Date palm processors, extension agents and other industry leaders.
Curriculum development
-Develop a date palm cultivation manual that describes all date palm cultivation best practices and comprehensive program including all growing stages starting from land preparation till harvest and post-harvest.
-Developing a ToT curriculum for the local master trainers so the project has the same message to be delivered to farmers.
-Assess technical training needs of the ERAS Project farmers and training staff; and provide training to ERAS local trainers in each governorate to ensure that they are capable of effectively implementing the project interventions in their governorates.
-Assess implementation of training recommendations.
-Identify and resolve any field issue as requested by agronomy team.
-Supervise and assess the local master trainers performance.

-Date palm cultivation manual with detailed description of best practices of every growing stage.
Qualifications Experience implementing training of trainers. Advance relevant degree Expertise related to Date palm production, harvest and post-harvest practices. Previous work experience in development project with small farmers is preferable. Experience developing training programs/curricula.

Other Skills PROJECT BACKGROUND: Feed the Future Egypt Rural Agribusiness Strengthening Project (ERAS) is a five-year USAID-funded activity. The project aims to improve the competitiveness of Egypts horticulture producers and related down-stream businesses and food processors. It promotes a more competitive and inclusive Egyptian economy through growth in selected horticultural sectors with special focus on securing employment and increasing agriculture-related incomes of smallholder farmers. The project will work in greater Cairo, Upper Egypt, and the Nile Delta, through three strategic regional offices in Luxor, Minya and Gharbia.
