General Description
THIS RECRUITMENT WILL BE USED TO FILL OTHER VACANCIES THAT OCCUR IN THIS CLASSIFICATION IN OTHER DEPARTMENTS THAT MAY ARISE OVER THE NEXT SIX (6) MONTHS. SUCH VACANCIES MAY BE FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME.
This is responsible public contact and clerical work involved in providing programmatic information to the general public and in processing requests for services. This class is characterized by primary responsibility for responding to difficult in-person and telephone inquiries necessitating judgment and discretion in both dispensing programmatic information directly and in making appropriate referrals. Work at this level necessitates programmatic knowledge, involves a potentially substantial consequence-of-error if done inappropriately, and requires varied and difficult public contact. Work is typically performed under general supervision.Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
Receptionist/Telephone duties for Building Inspection
Answer questions and direct calls as appropriate.
Schedule inspections for field staff.
Enter Housing Complaints into system.
Permitting
Process and issue routine permits.
Collect and process fees.
Document management
Scan documents and upload to document management system.
Process and file other paperwork as appropriate.
Provide back-up and support to permit counter.
Assist public with phone and counter inquiries.
Process routine permits.
Perform related work as required.Minimum Qualifications
Two and one-half years of responsible clerical experience, at least six months of which must have involved direct public contact/customer service work.
Possession of an Associates or Bachelors degree may be substituted for all experience requirements.
If an applicant does not possess the experience listed above, HR will review the application materials to determine if the applicant possesses the following equivalent experience:
Two years experience in applying the following:
General clerical methods and procedures.
Relevant office terminology and equipment.
Computers and their application in an office environment, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Departmental policies, procedures and functions.
City services and/or community resources.

Physical Requirements:
Employees will be expected to spend a majority of time sitting while operating a desktop computer and telephone. Employees will also have significant public contact and will be expected to provide excellent customer service.

Leave

Employees earn 3.5 personal days in addition to vacation.
Employees receive seven official paid holidays (New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day), as well as 3 paid leave days (the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve).
Employees also earn 13 sick days annually that may accrue to a total of 150 days.
